The module worked always properly but suddenly I do not know why the design has changed and the custom styles are not showing correctly anymore. And also the items are not beside each other. How can that be fixed?

Same issue here.... seems to be tied to the update.

Note: The JD website offers download of 1.2, but the JED shows 1.3.

It seems that you are working with a very old version of Joomla/bootstrap (it has a * Copyright 2012 Twitter, Inc. line).
JD Skillset is working with flex box, and requires a newer version of bootstrap.

Just checked Joomla 3.9.21 bootstrap.min.js file and, indeed, it contains 2012 copyright....

Try to refresh your page (ctrl F5) as it seems to work fine overhere.
